Netherlands-based Constellium NV in May opened its new plant in White, Georgia, dedicated to the production of advanced aluminium automotive structural components and crash management systems.

The 135,000-square-foot facility will supply the Southern Automotive Corridor and may be expanded to 220,000 square feet to meet future customer needs. Constellium expects to have 150 employees at the plant by 2019.

“I am very pleased to be in Georgia today to celebrate the opening of this new plant, its state-of-the art manufacturing capability and world-class team that is committed to work in partnership with our automotive customers,” Paul Warton, president of Constellium’s Automotive Structures & Industry business unit, said at the dedication. “Being closer to our customers’ assembly plants will allow us to better serve automakers in their mission to make vehicles lighter and safer and to respond to the industry’s growing demand for aluminium structural parts.”

Aluminium has grown in popularity as a material of choice to reduce vehicle weight, improve fuel economy, lower emissions and increase safety.
